Custom user directory information providers

PaperCut MF is a modern application designed with a modern architecture. It supports plug-ins and extensions at a number of different levels. One such layer is the User Directory source. Organizations with very complex domains, such as those seen in large universities, can use either with the standard options, or if the standard options are not sufficient, via a custom plug-in.

For example, a University might have multiple domains, one running Active Directory and the other LDAPThe Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is a directory service protocol that runs on a layer above the TCP/IP stack. It provides a mechanism used to connect to, search, and modify Internet directories. The LDAP directory service is based on a client-server model./NIS. A custom plug-in could support this by first querying Domain A, and if the user is not found, the query Domain B via LDAP.
